The Determined to Succeed initiative reinforces the importance of enterprise, core skills, career education and work experience in preparing young people to make choices about their future.

We have developed CD ROMs for Work Experience Intermediate 1 and 2 (one CD for each level) to support authorities and schools in delivering these aspects of Determined to Succeed.

The two CD ROMs have been designed for pupils taking Work Experience at Intermediate 1 and 2 and can also be used to develop the Core Skills of Working with Others, Communication, Information Technology and Problem Solving.

The CDs cover:

• Induction
• Arranging visits and speakers
• Assessing your skills and interests
• Researching career options
• Selecting and organising a placement
• Health and safety
• Expecting the unexpected
• Keeping a work experience diary
• Writing a report on your work experience
• Making a presentation
• Preparing for interview

These CDs are now used in around half of Scottish education authorities and have been receiving really positive feedback from pupils and teachers. Pupils enjoy the various activities and the video clips and the way it has helped them make choices about their future. In important (but sometimes not very interesting) areas such as health and safety, both pupils and teachers have found it to be 'hard fun'. Teachers have been enthusiastic about how it has helped them, not just for work experience and careers education but in supporting and developing core skills. It has made their job easier and also added greatly to motivating pupils.

PRICING:

The cost of an EA-wide licence for both CDs is:
£250 +VAT x the number of secondary schools in your authority.

For individual schools, the price is £300 for both CDs and £250 for one. This gives you unlimited use for all your staff and pupils. It includes ten copies of each CD for each school. Additional copies are available at cost.

Rocket technical assistance is available free of charge, if necessary, to assist with installation on authority networks.
